As a 2009 recipient of the American Planning Association's 10 Great Neighborhoods award, Historic Hilton Village was recognized by the City of Newport News during the Village's October StreetFest celebration held on Saturday, October 24. StreetFest took place from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and the city's recognition ceremony occurred at 11:15 a.m. at the corner of Warwick Boulevard and Main Street.

Participating in the ceremony were city counselors Herbert Bateman Jr, Madeline McMillian, and Dr. Pat Woodbury; representatives of the American Planning Association and the Hilton Village community as well as children from the StreetFest costume parade. The APA and the City presented a certificate and proclamation to Historic Hilton Village and unveiled a sign acknowledging the award.
